Weddings are a time to celebrate the love between two people in front of family and friends. There’s nothing quite so special as being able to watch the people you love celebrate their new bond together.

In November of 2017, one couple in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania was eager to tie the knot. When it was time for the bride to say vows, she turned to face the crowd and made a startling demand. The whole church was holding its breath…

When Katie Hild met Jeremy Musser four years prior, they’d only been dating for six blissful weeks when Jeremy told Katie something shocking.

He told Katie that he had a son, named Landon. Katie was a little taken aback, as she was only 20 years old, but she decided to be calm about it. She asked Jeremy, “How old is [he]? 2?”

She wasn’t ready for his response when he told her his son was just three weeks old. Katie didn’t know what to think. They had been dating for six weeks and this was the first time he decided to tell her about his newborn baby?

As one can expect with a new baby, the tension was high. Jeremy was stressed in his relationship with Landon and his mom, Casey Jo Booker. And when Jeremy’s ex-lover and current lover met, they didn’t get along.

Katie knew that if she was going to spend her life with Jeremy, as she hoped, she and Casey would have to be in each other’s lives forever. They needed to make things work. She decided to reach out to Casey.

It wasn’t easy at first, but they agreed to go on “mommy dates”. Katie asked Casey to meet her for a cup of coffee. Waiting for Casey, Katie got even more nervous, but she knew this was a step they had to take.

They continued to try and work things out, and life kept happening, too. Eventually, Casey met her now husband, Tyler. He too had a difficult time adjusting to this tricky family dynamic…

When Katie and Jeremy decided to tie the knot, Jeremy knew he needed to reach out to Tyler. He sent him a message thanking him for being there for Landon and ended it by inviting Tyler for a drink, but they never went.

Finally, the wedding day arrived. Jeremy and Katie couldn’t wait to say their vows at their beautiful fall ceremony. They were surrounded by friends and family, and Katie’s mom was the officiant.

It was time for them to say their vows to each other, but when it was Katie’s turn she didn’t turn to Jeremy, she turned to the crowd and asked Casey, to stand up. No one knew what to expect, surely Katie and Casey were no longer enemies?

No one knew of Katie’s plan to call out Casey. Still, everyone turned their heads to witness the interaction that was about to happen…

As Casey stood up in front of the crowd gathered there, Katie started to speak. She said something that stunned everyone: she told them all about how she and Casey hated each other…

But for the sake of the little boy in both of their lives, they were able to move past it. On their special day, Katie invited Casey to do the first look. She wanted to give Casey a sunflower bracelet, like the ones her bridesmaids wore, to let Casey know how important she was.

The past was the past, and Katie was ready to move forward and start her life with Jeremy. They were just about ready to recite their vows when Katie asked Casey to stand up. After everything the pair had been through, Katie’s words were truly moving.

“First, I want to thank you for accepting me as your friend and allowing me to be a part of Landon’s life. I promise to be an amazing mother to your son. I promise to respect, work, listen, and communicate together as co-parents. I will love you guys no matter what. We are one family.”

Katie then turned to Landon. She said, “I promise to love daddy with all my heart, I promise to be a best friend to mommy and your daddy Tyler. We will be one big family that I promise you will have for the rest of your life. I love you so much.”

Katie knew she needed to “say her vows” to Casey and Landon first before she could turn to Jeremy and promise her life to him. From the beginning, four years ago, Katie knew it wasn’t going to be just the two of them in the end.

As the wedding came to an end, Tyler approached Jeremy with his white flag raised high. He said, “After all of this is over, let’s go get that drink.”

Katie shared her story in a Facebook post to illustrate how much time and effort it takes to build a supportive blended family and that it’s truly a blessing.

She ended her post with this final thought, “It’s possible to get along, communicate, and give the same rules/love/respect on both sides for your child/children. Go against the norm. BE that CHANGE.”

Katie and Jeremy’s ceremony was surely one to remember, though having an unexpected moment on your wedding day can be quite shocking. A couple in California were enjoying their own marriage celebrations when the band suddenly cut out at the sight of an uninvited guest.

Samantha Carisch and Taylor Sinclair met for the first time in 2010 at a minor-league baseball game. A member of the Visalia Rawhide, Taylor fell for Sam as soon as he spotted her in the stands.

Despite the unique circumstances of their meeting, a relationship soon blossomed between the two. The couple dated long-distance for a time until Taylor decided to relocate to California permanently to be with Sam.

After four years, Taylor decided to pop the question during a romantic vacation in Cancun, Mexico. Sam accepted his proposal in a heartbeat, and the two immediately got to work planning their dream wedding.

The couple was quick to decide on a return to Cancun for their destination wedding, determined to marry in front of their friends and family at the place where it all began. Unfortunately, this was not meant to be.

Just one day after the couple returned from a wedding-planning trip in late 2014, Sam received heartbreaking news. Apparently, her mother’s multiple sclerosis had worsened to the point that she’d be unable to travel to Cancun for the wedding.

Sam knew she couldn’t enjoy her big day without her mother present, so the couple quickly scrapped their plans in favor of a venue closer to home. But after several months spent planning a wedding in California, the couple was hit with another tragic setback.

After severe pain in her side sent her to the doctor’s, Sam’s mother was diagnosed with colon cancer. With the doctor’s prognosis not looking good, Sam and Taylor resolved to postpone their wedding indefinitely.

Following the diagnosis, Sam relocated from her home in Redondo Beach to Simi Valley in order to care for her mother, opting to see Taylor only on weekends. It was also during this time that Sam began researching cheap wedding ideas, but none of them really blew her away. Then she discovered The Knot.

According to their website, The Knot ran a Dream Wedding competition that fully funded the wedding expenses for one lucky couple. But there was a catch: every detail of the wedding, from the ceremony to the honeymoon, would be voted on by the American public.

While most brides would scoff at the idea of having someone else plan their entire wedding, Sam felt this would be perfect for her and Taylor. “The planning would be handled by America, allowing all of my attention to remain on my mom’s situation,” Sam told The Knot.

Sam entered the competition, and, wouldn’t you know it, she won! With America taking care of their wedding, Sam and Taylor were finally free to focus on their family: all that was left for them to do on their big day was say “I do”.

The Press Democrat

On June 4th, 2015, Sam and Taylor arrived at the Chateau St. John and were amazed at the wedding that had been planned for them. Although the couple had been preparing for this day for what seemed like forever, they never expected what came next.

For their first dance as a married couple, Sam and Taylor chose the song “Love You Like That” by Canaan Smith. “Just listening to the song makes us both smile and reminds us of each other, our relationship and our love for one another,” said Taylor.

But just as they began dancing, the band abruptly cut out. “You know, we have a better idea,” one of the musicians announced to the couple. “Sam and Taylor, we have a special guest who’s here to sing you your first dance song.”

Before they could react, Sam and Taylor turned and spotted Canaan Smith himself walking toward them! Courtesy of The Knot, the country singer had flown out to California to deliver the couple a surprise of a lifetime.

The newlyweds were in disbelief as Smith took the stage and began performing “Love You Like That” right in front of them. However, Sam and Taylor went right back to dancing, happily singing along with Smith and the band as they played.

“That was beyond our wildest dreams,” a stunned Sam relayed as she exited the dance floor. “That threw us for a loop when they stopped the music, and we said, ‘What’s going on? Did they forget the song?’ We were like ‘What happened?'”

Sam added, “We’ve loved that song from the second that we heard it…I showed it to Taylor and I said, ‘Taylor I think this should be our first dance song.’ And he was like, ‘Oh, absolutely.'”

The Knot

Despite all the hardships and struggles, Sam and Taylor were still able to have the wedding of their dreams. Regardless of what the future holds for the couple and their family, Sam and Taylor’s wedding day will be one that neither they nor their guests will ever forget.
